Competitions

Throughout the year we hold many competitions covering a wide range of formats such as Foursomes, Greensomes, 4BBB, Texas Scrambles, Matchplay, Stableford, Stroke Play and Knockouts with a mix of singles, pairs and team events. Competitions are administered by the committee responsible for the relative Club section, i.e. Main Club, Ladies, Seniors and Juniors. The scheduled dates for all these competitions are listed in the annual calendar which also includes details of fixtures for inter-club and other events. We strongly recommend that you obtain a copy of the calendar from the clubhouse reception.

Entering Competitions

All Main Club competitions are notified to members through an entry sheet, which is posted on the notice board at least 3 weeks in advance of the competition date. These will tell you the name of the competition, the format, entry conditions (e.g. Active handicap is required in many cases and weekend competitions are almost entirely restricted to 7 day members) and the tee of the day. You will also need to pay the entry fee, which in most cases is £3, all of which goes into the members account. Competitions operate either on a drawn basis or, in the case of, for example, Monthly Medals and Monthly Stablefords, you simply write your name in any available space on the entry sheet. For drawn competitions, which covers most of our Trophy and Honours Board competitions, the draw is randomly undertaken, and tee times and playing companions will be posted on the notice board at least one clear weekend before the competition date. On the day of the competition you simply tum up early enough to register, pay your entry fee and be on the tee at least 10 minutes before your allotted start time. A competition official will be there to sign you in and answer any questions you might have. At the end of your round please enter your scores on the computer terminal, which is located near the entrance to the clubhouse bar, and place your completed card in the card box. Results will be posted on the notice board, usually within a few days, and some are also posted

Men’s Monthly Medals, Monthly Stablefords & Midweek Medals

What might be regarded as the staple constituent of all golf clubs’ programmes, these competitions are held every month throughout the year, weather permitting. With few exceptions, two separate Monthly Medals are played on a Saturday and Sunday successively early on in each month with a Monthly Stableford played on a later weekend. The two Monthly Medals are individual competitions each with separate winners for the 19-28 handicap range and for 18 handicaps and below. Monthly Stablefords are a one-day event and have only one
overall winner. You can enter as many or as few of these competitions as you wish. There is no handicap restriction, however, players with Inactive handicaps can enter, but cannot win – this provides those players an ideal route to achieving an Active handicap. The Medal and Stableford entry sheets cover a 2 hours block of tee times from 08:02 to 09:54 specifically reserved for these payment of entry fee and always provided that you are accompanied by another member who has a CONGU handicap to mark and sign your card. Midweek Medals are held on the first Wednesday of each month and for these you make your own tee-time arrangements, register and pay the entry fee at Reception.

Trophies and Medals

In October every year we have a Presentation Day which commences with a mixed Texas Scramble followed by a lunch and presentation of trophies and medals to those members who have been fortunate enough to win any of the associated competitions. Together with Captain’s Day and Captain’s Drive-In these rank as highlights of the year’s sociable events with usually well over 100 members from all sections taking part in the golf competition and more joining in the post-match celebrations. This is a day not to be missed, particularly if you wish to get to know fellow members.

Team Inter-club Competitions

In addition to the inter-club team competitions run by the Lady’s section and Seniors’ section, Stock Brook field teams in the following men’s competitions – you may wish to try-out for these at some stage in the future – look out for notices on the main notice board:
